ABSTRACTS
Power8
Announcement
Jaqui
Jaqui will go over the most recent POWER8
announcements and will provide tips and hints on planning and performance
Linux on
Power Andy
With the announcement of Power 8, Linux on Power has gained
momentum. IBM has committed $1 billion in resources to Linux and has
expanded its functionality. This presentation will detail what changes to
Linux come with Power 8. It will also explore the benefits of Power 8
Linux versus x86 Linux, including TCO comparisons.
AIX Performance Part 1 & Part 2 Jaqui
This presentation describes a recommended set of
starter tunables to be used on any AIX system and
goes into the details of how to determine the settings for those tunables and how to set them. It looks at the general
performance tuning approach and tuning memory in particular. Topics around file
systems, HBA settings and queue_depth settings are
explored along with file system layout, concurrent I/O and Asynchronous I/O.
During the session differences between AIX v5.3, v6.1 and v7 for the settings
are explained. Part 1 will cover memory and CPU. Part 2 will cover Network,
I/O, performance tools and some Oracle tips. Real data will be used to
illustrate the various points being made
Flash storage including
benchmarks Andy
For the past 10 years, disk technology has be relatively stagnant
and considered the bottleneck in the technology stack. With the mass
adoption of flash storage technology, companies are relieving that bottleneck
and seeing the benefits. This presentation will walk through IBM's FlashSystems technology and benefits of Flash.
Virtualization
Concepts
Charlie
This presentation
provides details on how the PowerVM virtualized
processor environment operates. It is important to have this foundational
knowledge as you begin planning for the implementation of POWER8 based
systems and for general software licensing core counting. Topics that
will be discussed include: (1) The relationship between processing units,
virtual processors, and logical processors, (2) LPAR configuration guidelines
for virtualized processors, (3) Multiple shared processor pool overview, and
(4) Tips on how to improve server and software utilization.
